Order Secured for Largest Phoenix Controls Project Outside of North America

Critical Airflow Control Systems Ltd of the United Kingdom have secured an order for the design, project management, software engineering, and commissioning for one of the largest Phoenix Controls projects outside of North America.

Phoenix Controls supplied the equipment with design support services from both the UK and Belgium offices of Critical Airflow Controls Ltd. The System operates on the LON Celeries ll Platform and integrates with the site wide Building Automation System. A high-speed network connects 411 Venturi valves via 34 routers and five repeaters. The project has 160 fume hoods, 24 of the hoods are of a complex design and are therefore fitted with the patented Phoenix wireless sash sensors.

The two-phase project will be handed over in September 2004. The Mechanical and Electrical contractor is ABI Imtech of Belgium.

As result of the company's tighter focus on forward-looking areas of research, vigorous investment in new research buildings, namely the Discovery Research Center (DRC) and the Drug Safety Evaluation Center (DSEC), has recently been constructed at the Beerse site. The larger of the two buildings, the DRC, will take up a surface area of 16,470 m2.

The laboratories housed in it will meet the st rictest requirements and should enable Janssen to attract highly qualified scientists from all over the world. The aim is to have some 285 R&D staff moving into the new Discovery Research Center late 2004.

With more than 80 drugs to its name, Janssen is one of the most innovative pharmaceutical companies in the world and its products have found major applications in human medicine. In Belgium alone, the company employs over 3700 people, more than a third of who are graduates.
